Creating A Site That Your Visitors Will Like

February 27th, 2009

It takes a lot of time and effort to develop an e-commerce website and it takes equal time and effort to draw targeted traffic to the site. So, would you want a site that drives off the traffic that it attracts? Clearly, this would be a self defeating prophecy yet many people do exactly that. As such, it is critical to design a site that does not make for a negative visiting experience so as to not undermine your e-commerce’s site’s potential to sell.

While you may know which web browser you like the best you do not know which web browser potential customers enjoy. so, it becomes important to develop a website that is compatible with all browsers. After all, if your e-commerce site is not compatible with, say Firefox, you will literally be driving off untold numbers of customers who surf the net with Firefox.

One of the most common, and easily corrected, mistakes on an e-commerce website is broken links. Honestly, the presence of links that do not work reflect very badly on the owner of the site because it displays sloppiness and a lack of maintenance. Because of this it is critical to double check all links and make sure they work before driving potential customers to your site.

If there was an aspect thiat is most overlooked it would be load time. Most people do not think much about the amount of time it takes to load a website if they are used to DSL or some other form of High Speed Internet connection, but for those people who are using a dial up modem a page that takes forever to load is annoying. Most people with dial ups (and they still compose a massive number of internet users) simply won’t wait for a page that takes forever to load.

Again, it takes very little to make a website visitors like. So give them what they like!
