The other day someone on my list called me up with some questions. Over the duration of that conversation, we covered many things, but the most important breakthrough that day was the introduction of an autoresponder to him. You see, he had mentioned that about a decade ago, he had actually built an mlm business that was earning him in the area of $40K a month. Unfortunately for him, the company somehow fell apart, and his earnings were gone.

Now some of you may think this was the worst of the scenario, and of course taking a $40K a month hit is bad. But what’s actually even more of an issue is that he really had no records of his list. I had him imagine if he had maintained contact with all those people, even over a ten year period, just by sending them some quick messages on what he was up to, wishing them happy holidays, giving them tips, whatever. The first thing I ask people when they come to me for help is if they are building a list. If you are not building a list, you are wasting your time. This is especially true in today’s age where people really need to see a message multiple times before making a purchase.

People come up with ideas all the time. Some of these ideas that are so original and come at the right time and place that their success leads to a phenomenon. Such is the case with social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Social networking sites are a relatively simple idea but sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. This is evidenced by the tens of millions of dollars that have been earned by some of the social networking sites. While the original intent of these sites was to form online communities of friends of like minded interests many have also expanded this concept to include communities of business relationships. This provides an online retailer with a targeted market of consumers who the seller can easily access and promote to…with little to no cost. Clearly, this has proven to be a cash cow for a number of smart businesses.

Of course, the operative word here is smart and not everyone has played the game intelligently. Those who have used social networking sites as a base of operations for spamming members usually find themselves thrown out of the community. Such people not only harm themselves but also make it difficult for others as such actions lead to anti-marketing policies on social networking sites. It goes without saying that such behavior should be avoided by anyone who is serious about using social networking sites as viable marketing tools.

As anyone who is in business for themselves realizes, revenues are not consistent throughout the year. That means that some months will see spikes in revenues while others will see declines. So, when the holidays approach it is best to start offering your best sales and deals to take advantage of the spike in consumer purchasing.

Of course, there will be those who assume the product or service they offer does not make a great Christmas gift. This is a very limiting perspective and one of the main reasons people bang their heads against the wall trying to figure out what type of gift to purchase. Just because something can’t be wrapped does not mean it can’t make a good gift. This is, of course, where you come in! No matter what you are offering, you can always offer gift certificates during the holidays as this would create a unique and original gift idea.

Remember, the holidays are about giving so why not give your customers a great holiday themed sale? They are sure to appreciate it!

If you have stepped into the world of Ecommerce, you are making a smart career move. The ability to pull in significant revenue through a website is quite possible provided you have a heavy stream of traffic to your site. However, it is important to realize that traffic alone will not sell you products. In fact, what is the value of a website that draws in huge numbers of visitors when those visitors immediately leave the site? This may seem like an academic point, but there are a number of sellers who make the colossal mistake of linking to a page that does not offer an option to purchase the product. If you place an ad for a door knob and the link leads the potential buyer to the “about us” section of your website then you may have undermined the sale.

Also, it is critical to have a reliable and user friendly shopping cart software program installed. Shopping carts that are difficult to navigate deter buyers from actually buying. Now, who would want a situation like that?
