Holiday Internet Marketing

February 27th, 2009

As anyone who is in business for themselves realizes, revenues are not consistent throughout the year. That means that some months will see spikes in revenues while others will see declines. Of course, the goal here is to always maximize the upswings in revenues and one of the best ways to do this is to maximize the holiday potential. while most consider Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and even Halloween as time to spend with one’s family, they are also times of the year to boost sales. This is why all those retail shops have holiday themed sales!

This is also the reason why so many websites have affiliate banners for Amazon.com and other major shopping sites, etc. on their websites. Yes, they can earn income from these sites all year round but it is most definitely the holiday seasons that bring about the spikes in sales. To put it mildly, if you aren’t exploring holiday options then you are not maximizing the potential of your internet business. So, when the holidays approach it is best to start offering your best sales and deals to take advantage of the spike in consumer purchasing.

Of course, there will be those who assume the product or service they offer does not make a great Christmas gift. This is a very limiting perspective and one of the main reasons people bang their heads against the wall trying to figure out what type of gift to purchase. Just because something can’t be wrapped does not mean it can’t make a good gift. This is, of course, where you come in! No matter what you are offering, you can always offer gift certificates during the holidays as this would create a unique and original gift idea.

Remember, the holidays are about giving so why not give your customers a great holiday themed sale? They are sure to appreciate it!

Sales and ECommerce

February 19th, 2009

If you have stepped into the world of Ecommerce, you are making a smart career move. The ability to pull in significant revenue through a website is quite possible provided you have a heavy stream of traffic to your site. However, it is important to realize that traffic alone will not sell you products. In fact, what is the value of a website that draws in huge numbers of visitors when those visitors immediately leave the site? Obviously, there is little value in such a site and that is why it is critical to develop a website that does not undermine your ability to sell your product.

For example, is it easy for the potential buyer to reach the product that is for sale? Often, many websites are loaded with pages and sub-pages that do not provide a product to click on for purchase. The internet is boundless, while people’s time is limited. When you make it time consuming for people to purchase the item they may exit the site and take their business to a more user friendly site.

Another problem is developing links that do not direct the “clicker” directly to the product. This may seem like an academic point, but there are a number of sellers who make the colossal mistake of linking to a page that does not offer an option to purchase the product. If you place an ad for a door knob and the link leads the potential buyer to the “about us” section of your website then you may have undermined the sale.

Also, it is critical to have a reliable and user friendly shopping cart software program installed. Shopping carts that are difficult to navigate deter buyers from actually buying. Now, who would want a situation like that?

Online Newsletters for Your Internet Business

February 17th, 2009

Does anyone remember the expansive world of fan newsletters before the internet came into being? Back then, anyone with an interest in sports, movies, books, etc. would crank out a few pages and sell it for pennies to like minded people with the same interests. Then, there were those people who realized that newsletters could also be used effectively as a marketing tool. Unfortunately, the costs of producing distributing newsletters could sometimes prove prohibitive. In today’s expanded world of the internet, this is no longer the case as emailed internet newsletters are a radically inexpensive version of the old direct mail campaigns. Properly used, these online newsletters can provide a valuable tool for making money online.

Online newsletters are primarily used to support a website that is offering a product or service. When emailed to current, former or potential customers these newsletters will provide information of what is happening at your site. Remember, if your site is not updated daily odds are people will not be checking it out regularly but rather only when they want something. Or, worse, they may even forget about your site! This is where a solid email newsletter can be effective because it essentially nudges your customers on the shoulder and reminds them that you are still there. The information contained in the newsletter will generally mention upcoming sales, product news and announcements, updates to the site and pretty much anything else that would be of interest.

Ultimately, the true purpose of the newsletter is to get people to repeatedly revisit your site. As people become frequent visitors the more likely they will be to make purchases from your site as opposed to elsewhere. Needless to say, this makes an online newsletter a tremendous internet marketing strategy that can potentially deliver huge revenues with little cost.

The Cost Effective Case for Internet Marketing

February 16th, 2009

The business world is one that is always in a state of flux although some small businesses are a little slow to adjust to the rapid changes in a competitive landscape. In today’s world, in order to maximize a business’ potential – whether it be a brick and mortar business, an internet business or a business that combines both concepts – there will be a need to invest time in internet marketing. This is because internet marketing is the vehicle that can greatly expand a business’ potential revenue stream.

Please note that internet marketing is primarily time investment and not exclusively a monetary investment. Yes, you can throw away thousands of dollars on banner ads and expensive “click thru” advertising ventures but the most successful method of internet marketing is found in search engine placement. This is because when people are looking for a particular product or service they immediately turn to Google, Yahoo, or another search engine and type in their wants. This will then result in the search engine “spitting out” a slew of websites based on their popularity. Now this is where it gets cost effectively good: the popularity of the placement of the websites is largely based upon link building. No company – no matter how much liquid cash they have – can purchase high placement in a search engine. Rankings are based largely on search engine optimization and a small company is never put at a disadvantage against a big company in the SEO realm. As all that is required is a time commitment and minimal monetary expenditure, a small business can literally beat a large business in search engine ranking.

This is a rapid departure from the old model where large and small companies had to compete in the expensive world of traditional offline marketing where the little company was outspent a thousand fold. Now, the playing field is a little more level and any small business would greatly benefit from solid internet marketing search engine strategies.

Avoiding Banners and Spammy Direct Email Campaigns

February 14th, 2009

There are a number of ways to maximize the profits of your internet business and often they have nothing to do with increasing revenue. Case in point, if you are pulling in $1,000 a week and spending $1,100 you are losing $100, and if you are pulling in $400 a week and spending $300 you are making a $100 profit. Sadly, many people look at the person “earning” $1,000 as successful despite the fact that this person is overspending with little result. Such is the case when it comes to online marketing and the traditional banner ads and email campaigns of the past.

Yes, at one time these methods of advertising were successful ways of drawing in a potential buyer. Placing a low cost banner ad on a website drew a ton of attention to products in the past. Same with email marketing which essentially took the age old concept of direct mail marketing and made it electronic. Times, however, have changed and these methods of marketing – while still somewhat useful – really can no longer be the strategic basis of a marketing campaign.

With banner ads the actual purchases on “click thru’s” have diminished. Also, the number of people clicking on banners has diminished as well. Part of the reason for this is that people have become wary of the spyware intrusions that banner ads often bring. For email marketing, it was overexposure that killed the beast. Essentially, people have become tired of receiving absurd amounts of “spam” emails everyday and this has led to greatly tuning out on advertisers who use such campaigns. This is to say nothing of the increased costs of dealing with bulk email marketing providers.

The landscape of internet marketing has changed greatly from prior years. These days, it would be far more effective to look into search engine optimization, blogging, video marketing and other social marketing methods for ones online marketing needs. Economics simply dictates as such.
